Why Use a Freelancer?

Freelancers are industry professionals who work independently on a project-by-project (per diem) basis, which means you pay only for completed work. Unlike “traditional” employees, there is no need to provide medical benefits, 401K, or any other type of benefit. Consequently, if there is no work or project to be completed at any given time, you are not wasting company money by paying salaries to full-time employees.

Freelancers are not typical "9 to 5" employees but rather owners of their own company, therefore, they understand the need to meet deadlines and have flexible schedules that allow them to meet their client's deadlines, often working weekends to finish a project.

The publishing industry has long used freelancers as a method to reduce salary expense that would otherwise be paid during the "downtime" in the editorial and production cycle. As corporations continue to cut budgets, publishers will increasingly require the services of a freelancer; why not begin to explore this option now?
